India's government wants gay sex to be kept illegal

NEW DELHI - India's Home Ministry has told the country's top court that gay sex is "immoral" and "against social order" as it urged the court to keep homosexuality illegal. The Press Trust of India is reporting that a government lawyer argued in front of the court Thursday that conservative Indian society's disapproval of homosexuality was reason enough to keep it a crime. In 2009, the Delhi High Court struck down a law that made sex between people of the same gender punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The Supreme Court is hearing various opinions on that ruling. Conservative groups have asked the top court to overturn the lower court's order. AP
