SINGAPORE : The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has received S$100,000 in donations for its "Japan Disaster 2011" fund since its collection started on Tuesday. It has been appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate Singapore's relief efforts to Japan. To kick-start Singapore's procurement of relief items for the survivors of the recent Japan disaster, the organisation was also given S$500,000 by the government. The money will go towards buying blankets, collapsible water containers, mattresses and bottled water, which will be sent to Japan within the next 48 hours. These items were requested by the Japanese Ambassador to Singapore, Yoichi Suzuki. The Red Cross is accepting monetary donations only. All donations made to the "Japan Disaster 2011" appeal will be earmarked specifically for the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for survivors of the dis...
