SINGAPORE - Jobs created here last year hit a total of 115,900, above earlier estimates of 112,500. In its labour market report for 2010 released yesterday, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said the total employment growth far exceeded the 37,600 jobs added in 2009. The report highlighted the labour market's strong recovery last year from the 2009 recession. The services sector contributed the bulk of employment gains - with 111,000 jobs added, almost double the number created in the sector in 2009. In comparison, employment in the construction sector grew by just 2,500, compared to the gains of 25,100 in 2009. According to the report, the main causes for the slowing rate of employment growth are the completion of several large building projects and fewer new projects coming on-stream.
