Centre wants to help more with disabilities - TODAYonline

SINGAPORE - Confined to a wheelchair since a fall at the age of seven injured his spine, Mr Timothy Ang used to get by on S$300 a month doing odd jobs from home. Said Mr Ang, now 58: "I've done telemarketing, data entry, some piece work and assembling electronic parts, and it was very tedious and time-consuming." When the Centre for the Physically Challenged opened in December 2010, Mr Ang signed up and picked up architectural drawing skills. Now he earns about S$1,000 a month, thanks in part to the efforts of his volunteer lecturer who gets the participants projects to work on. The centre has more than 150 clients like Mr Ang and in just over a year has helped 64 people with disabilities find jobs. It is now looking to expand its client numbers by 50 per cent.
