Sri Lanka says US move over "war crimes" unjustified

GENEVA: Sri Lanka said on Monday there was no justification for a US-backed move to censure the country over its investigation into alleged war crimes. Colombo has already taken clear steps to act on the recommendations of a national inquiry, human rights envoy Mahinda Samarashinghe told a meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Sri Lanka responded after the United States said this month that it would support a draft resolution to be considered at the council session which is expected to state that government response was lacking. "Sri Lanka has taken clear and definite steps towards implementation of the recommendations of the domestic process," said the envoy in his statement.
