If the quality of football is good, fans will watch the #SLeague, says former national defender Sasikumar

SINGAPORE - There is little doubt that the LionsXII Malaysian football adventure has ignited a little spark in the hearts of football fans here. Thousands packed the Jalan Besar Stadium each week to see if V Sundramoorthy could plot victory over Malaysian state teams, but the story is not quite the same for the S-League, our 17-year-old domestic football competition. So far, 12 matches have been played in the S-League season, with attendance and sales figures still dropping as naysayers have predicted. Excluding the Charity Shield season curtain-raiser that attracted 4,146, and the DPMM-Tampines Rovers fixture at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium in Brunei that 8,672 watched, the 11 other S-League fixtures played on Singapore soil saw an average of only 1,090 spectators.
