They had filed an appeal against the compensation amount the state awarded them for their homes, but claim they were pressured by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) to withdraw it. They said that in a letter dated Jan 26, the SLA had informed them that the Government's offer of a goodwill payment - an ex gratia sum over and above the statutory compensation amount - would be 'deemed as lapsed' if they did not withdraw their appeal by Feb 9...
