I AM writing to express my sheer disappointment at the reaction of some Singaporeans to the disaster in Japan. First, it was reported last Saturday that a Singapore Airlines (SIA) passenger was "upset" that her Tokyo flight was delayed by 2.5 hours because it meant that all her plans were "very uncertain". Next, someone wrote to the media to express disappointment that the flight information display screen at Narita Airport was not updated to reflect the latest status of flight SQ11. The New Paper reported the reaction of some Singaporeans, which ranged from the gentleman who decided to open his fridge and grab some milk and orange juice because "in case the building collapsed, I would have something to drink"; to the gentleman who complained that his taxi fare approached S$260 after four hours on the road in Tokyo.
