Developing: Mudslide buried a family of 7 in the central Philippines after heavy rains caused flooding

MANILA - A MUDSLIDE that struck silently at night has buried a family of seven after heavy rains caused flooding in the central Philippines. Tacloban city Mayor Alfred Romualdez said the mud flowed silently during a power outage before dawn and neighbours only realised what happened at daybreak on Thursday. The victims were sleeping when the mudslide hit their home. The mayor said six bodies have been retrieved and rescuers are searching for a high school student still missing. Disaster officials say 1,360 people have left homes due to floods and landslides in four central and southern Philippine provinces. -- AP
