SYDNEY - AMERICAN author and gay rights activist Armistead Maupin said Thursday he was shocked after a bartender in Australia told his partner the gents room was 'reserved for real men'. Mr Maupin, best known for his 'Tales of the City' series of novels, which were converted into a television mini-series, has been travelling around Australia with Christopher Turner - who he married 2007. The pair were in the Bojangles restaurant in Alice Springs, a city at the geographic centre of the country with a large itinerant population, when Mr Turner was refused entry to the toilets. Mr Maupin, 66, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that his partner asked a bartender where the bathroom was, but was told there wasn't one.
