A radio station is not a human being. Neither is a national anthem. Don't mistake your wife for a hat. To the person who said to take a chill-pill, try being on the receiving end of racist abuse some day. I tried to see the funny side of being called slitty-eyed, slant-eyed, slope, gook, chink, can't-tell-you-guys-apart-cos-all-you-Orientals-look-alike but I failed to find the humour in it. Not because I am humour deprived but because the speaker's motive was to dehumanise me and diminish my humanity. A racist appellation is a way of putting down the recipient as sub-human. That's is why "Bangla" is offensive especially conjoined with "boy". Not only are they sub-human, they are not even men. The trouble with TNP headline "Bangla boys…" is that it perpetuates a racial and racist stereotype. These full-grown men are not boys. Hey boy, fetch me a drink. No massa, Kato go hom...
