Shares of China's biggest Internet company, Tencent, fall most in two years

HONG KONG - Tencent Holdings, China's biggest Internet company, fell the most in more than two years in Hong Kong trading yesterday after president Martin Lau said earnings growth would be "certain" to slow. China's biggest provider of online games and instant messaging services slumped 11 per cent to close at HK$193.20, the biggest decline since Oct 2008, wiping HK$43.3 billion (S$7.1 billion) off the Shenzhen-based company's market value. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index declined 1.8 per cent. Tencent, with a bigger market value than eBay of the United States, is ramping up spending on its micro-blogging site, which trails that of China's Sina, and is stepping up a challenge to Alibaba in the e-commerce market. Investor expectations for Tencent's growth should be adjusted, Mr Lau said late on Wednesday after the company reported fourth-quarter profit rose 46 per cen...
