Ex-GF gets dog in custody battle with surgeon

ADOPTED soon after birth, Sasha ended up being tugged to and fro as the couple waged a transpacific custody battle. Yesterday, the two-year-old’s fate was finally decided by the High Court – in Singapore’s first such case involving a canine. Cross-terrier Sasha is jointly owned by the pair, the judge decided. But the pet will stay with Ms Connie Tan, 30, who lives here. She and Dr Tan Kok Chye, 37, a surgeon based in the United States, adopted Sasha in August 2008 when they were living in Alabama. The couple – both Singaporeans – broke up, and Ms Tan returned here with the dog in November that year. They remained on cordial terms, and Ms Tan registered herself as Sasha’s owner with the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority. She looked after the pet in her family’s Sembawang flat.
