TAIPEI : People in Taiwan are pitching in for Japan's disaster relief effort. Locals and foreign students all across the island have come together to do what they can to help. Students at the National Taiwan Normal University are busy folding paper cranes. Many are foreigners who are in Taiwan to study Chinese. They want to do what they can to help Japan after it was devastated by the massive quake and tsunami. The crane is an auspicious symbol in Japanese culture. Legend has it that anyone who folds 1,000 paper cranes will have their wishes come true. And the group of students hopes their paper cranes will bring hope and comfort to the quake victims in Japan. One student said: "Japan needs everyone's help. This earthquake is not just about Japan, but the rest of the world. Because there is only one earth and we all live on the same planet.
