\"Sendai is safe\", says Singaporean in Sendai

The Singapore Embassy in Tokyo has also made arrangements for Singaporeans living within the an 80km-100km radius from the nuclear plants to leave for safer locations. But some Singaporeans in Sendai are staying on. One of them is a Singaporean in her early-30s who spoke to MediaCorp on the condition of anonymity. The Singaporean who wants to be known only as "Mary" said she is not worried as Sendai is not within the current 20-kilometre exclusion zone established by Japanese authorities. "The Japanese government is very conservative in their warnings. I think it's the international media who are more skeptical and more worried," she said. Mary, who teaches English at a public school, added that the population in Sendai is calm and there is no immediate danger of high radiation levels.
