No room in HK hotels for Japan evacuees, they may need to turn to S'pore, Bangkok due to the shortage of rooms

HONG KONG - People using Hong Kong as a hub for evacuation from Japan may need to turn to other regional centres - such as Singapore and Bangkok - because of a shortage of hotel rooms. The commercial aircraft charterer, Air Charter Service, has urged evacuees to go to other cities because hotel rooms in Hong Kong have been booked for the Rugby Sevens tournament from March 25 to 27. As an increasing number of countries advised their citizens to leave northern Japan, airlines geared up for a stream of mainly outbound traffic from Tokyo. "We have been evacuating people from Japan for several days," said Mr Gavin Copus, Asia-Pacific chief executive for Air Charter Service. "People coming here face the issue of hotel rooms and transfer flights which are also very busy to other destinations."
