Hong Kong to hold nuclear drill after Japan crisis

HONG KONG - HONG Kong will hold a comprehensive nuclear emergency drill early in 2012 following the crisis at a quake-hit atomic plant in Japan, the government said on Saturday. The drill will test contingency plans for a nuclear accident at Daya Bay power plant in China's Guangdong province, 20km from Hong Kong's border and 50km from the centre of the teeming financial hub. The exercise has been planned 'in view of the growing concern of the public on nuclear radiation', a statement from the Hong Kong government said. Fears have risen in the territory and in mainland China over radiation leaks at a Japanese power plant crippled by a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 - despite repeated government assurances that China was not at risk.
