President's Challenge targets to raise S$8m: SINGAPORE: The 12th President's Challenge has been launched. For th...

SINGAPORE: The 12th President's Challenge has been launched. For the past 11 years, it has raised S$100 million for 500 charities. The goal is to raise S$8 million for this year's President's Challenge, which kicked off on Saturday evening with a football match at Jalan Besar Stadium between MediaCorp personalities and Singapore ex-international football stars. Speaking at the launch, President SR Nathan reflected how President's Challenge started in 2000 as a "small initiative that had humble beginnings". Since then, the month-long movement to encourage Singaporeans from all walks of life to help the less fortunate has evolved into a year-long community driven charity campaign, with more organisations, agencies, citizen groups and individuals giving their time, effort and money.
