Malaysia, Singapore hold inaugural judicial conference

PUTRAJAYA: The significance of a Malaysia-Singapore judicial conference marks the beginning of a new chapter in the already strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two judiciaries, says Singapore's Chief Justice. Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong said both judiciaries had a lot in common, allowing them to speak a common legal language. Chief Justice Chan was speaking at the Inaugural Joint Judicial Conference held in Putrajaya, Malaysia. He said both judiciaries shared the same legal and judicial values. "That does not mean that we share the same substantive laws, that is, the written laws that our respective Parliaments enact to deal with the myriad social, economic and political problems of government," he said.
