KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - The issue of "responsible blogging" has come to the fore in the debate over an allegedly seditious posting by a pro-Pakatan Rakyat blogger. The 27-year-old blogger, whose address is hanief.blogspot.com, was questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) yesterday regarding the posting as well as comments on the personal life of a Malay ruler. Blogger Syed Akbar Ali (syedsoutsidethebox.blogspot.com), known for his social commentary on Malaysia and Islam, said postings on rulers were a big no-no. "I have had similar experiences like this with the authorities where I learned that that rulers are among seven topics protected under the Sedition Act.
