GE: Leadership renewal a key focus for political parties

SINGAPORE : Leadership renewal is shaping up to be one of the key focus for political parties in Singapore as the country heads to the polls. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has already said the nucleus of the ruling People's Action Party's (PAP) next generation of leaders would come from this election. The PAP is perhaps the most systematic in the way it identifies and grooms new talent. Newer Members of Parliament told MediaCorp it is a combination of meetings, informally known as "tea-sessions", psychometric tests and induction into party activities to see how members deal with the public and solve problems. The party formed its Youth Wing in 1986, in part as a means to allow younger Singaporeans to participate in the political process and as an avenue to identify potential leaders. For this General Election, the party is said to have identified 24 potential candidates. ...
