Not much excitement yet in cricket's showpiece event

COLOMBO - After four weeks and 40 matches, cricket's World Cup has crawled its way to the quarter-final stages. With some notable exceptions, especially England and their wild fluctuations in form, the 2011 World Cup has been a torrid affair with the slow-turning wickets of the subcontinent offering little for fans seeking excitement. The International Cricket Council (ICC) have agreed to slash the number of teams in the quadrennial 50-over tournament from 14 to 10 for the 2015 edition, effectively excluding the game's associate nations like Kenya, Netherlands, Canada and Ireland. The world's top eight teams have all predictably qualified for the last eight in a World Cup that will continue for another two weeks.
