SINGAPORE - Thanks to the economic recovery, it was a banner year for the Singapore Management University's (SMU) 2010 graduates in terms of employment and pay. The average monthly salary for the cohort came in at a record S$3,271 - a 5.8-per-cent jump from those of 2009 - with nine in 10 securing full-time permanent employment within six months after graduation. Figures from the SMU's annual graduate employment survey, which were released yesterday, showed that close to full employment was achieved when the part-time, temporary and self-employed were taken into account, compared with 96.8 per cent and 95.9 per cent in 2009 and 2008 respectively. According to the SMU, about eight in 10 of its 1,007 alumni participated in the survey.
