Taiwan's flat-panel TV industry gets boost from China: TAIPEI: Taiwan's flat panel makers may face a shortage of...

TAIPEI: Taiwan's flat panel makers may face a shortage of supply following the earthquake in Japan, but their long-term outlook remains strong. Analysts expect the industry to thrive on growing demand from the mainland especially after Taiwan removed more investment barriers to mainland companies. As one of the world's biggest flat panel producers, Taiwan has been fighting a tough battle against rival South Korea but the recent new measures may have given them the advantage. For the first time, Taiwan is letting its flat panel buy or merge with Chinese counterparts and they will be allowed to build factories in China using the same level of technology as they do at home. Taiwan relaxed the rules in its latest effort to bolster its economy with the mainland's help.
