Biden, Clinton salute Japan resilience (via ST iPhone App)

WASHINGTON - US VICE-PRESIDENT Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday voiced admiration for the response of ordinary Japanese to the major earthquake as they pledged continued US support. Mr Biden and Mrs Clinton paid separate visits to the Japanese embassy in Washington to sign a condolence book for the thousands of victims of the country's most powerful ever earthquake. President Barack Obama signed the book last week. After spending several minutes writing his response, Mr Biden said that the world has been impressed by the 'resolve of the Japanese people, the orderly way in which they are dealing with' the crisis. 'I've travelled around the world and I promise you the whole world is looking at the courage, bravery and the resolve being demonstrated by ordinary people,' Mr Biden told reporters.
