SINGAPORE - The labour movement is proposing that the Government provide funds for companies - especially smaller firms - to leverage on info-comm technology, in order to promote home-based work for women. Speaking at a women's job fair yesterday, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) deputy secretary-general Halimah Yacob said a tripartite committee has been set up to look into the matter - and it found that smaller companies need help in order for them to come on board. Said Mdm Halimah, who is a Member of Parliament and also the director of the NTUC Women's Development Secretariat (WDS): "We want to ask the Government if it can provide some funding for the companies, particularly the smaller ones ... These are critical because there are a large number of them and they can also make use of technology and the capabilities to create home-based work for women." According to...
