Is modern technology really killing the soul of music?

TURN on the radio these days and chances are, you'd be hard-pressed to hear a song that doesn't have the vocals being Auto-Tuned - where a singer's voice is automatically kept in tune through artificial means. It was used to great effect on Cher's 1998 song, Believe, but has since been featured incessantly, such that many "proper" musicians are decrying the use of such technology to mask innate talent. And it's not just singers, either. With the iPad and Monome, almost anybody is "qualified" to create music these days using apps like GarageBand or LogicPro - and you don't need a certificate from ABRSM (arguably still the world's leading body on music assessment) to tell you so.
