SINGAPORE: It is touted as one of the best inventions, especially for hot and humid Singapore. But the air-conditioner also consumes a lot of electricity. At Golden Village Yishun, air-conditioning temperature has been adjusted to between 23 and 24 degrees Celsius since last November. After a three-month refurbishment, green features like LED lights and electronic posters have reduced utility bills by a third. It is now also certified green, with the BCA Green Mark Gold Award. But at the other eight Golden Village multiplexes in Singapore, temperatures will remain at between 20 and 21 degrees.
