HSA warns against taking unlabelled black pills

SINGAPORE: The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has warned the public against taking black pills peddled in unlabelled bottles. The pills are touted to treat a wide range of medical conditions such as arthritic and rheumatic pain, high cholesterol and hypertension. The majority of the consumers targeted by the peddlers were elderly persons above 50 years of age. HSA said at least two elderly patients have fallen seriously ill after consuming these pills. It said the pills are sold in clear bottles without a product or brand name and other essential information such as ingredients and dosage instructions. So far, the peddling of these unlabelled bottles of black pills has been reported in Jurong and Waterloo Street. HSA's analysis of these black pills revealed the presence of two undeclared western medicinal ingredients, including a potent steroid that that requires a doctor...
