SINGAPORE - Sold for between S$35 and S$80 per bottle, the black, glossy pills in the unlabelled bottles were touted to treat a myriad of ailments from arthritis and rheumatic pain, to high cholesterol and hypertension. Called "hei mi wan" ("black honey pills" in Mandarin), the herbal-scented pills (picture) were sold by a fishmonger in Jurong. He thrived on the pills' brisk sales - over 300 bottles, each containing between 80 and 100 pills, were sold from last September to this month. But the fishmonger's sideline grounded to a halt when Health Sciences Authority (HSA) personnel bought the pills after a receiving a report from a doctor. The doctor, who only wanted to be known as Dr Chong, found out that one of her patients, a woman in her 50s, fell ill after she had consumed the pills which she bought in Jurong.
