New scheme to help needy save on electricity bills

SINGAPORE - Some 50 needy families living in rental flats in the North West District will benefit from a new initiative that can help them to reduce their electricity bills. Their lights will be re-fitted with energy-saving LED lights at no cost to them, allowing each household to save about 50 per cent or S$100 every year from their current electricity bill. The project is part of the Singapore Institute of Building's 30th anniversary celebration. The S$9,700 worth of lights and fixtures were supplied by Hermes-Epitek Corporation as part of the company's corporate social responsibility project. There are plans to reach out to more families in future.
