Malaysian journey for a Fulbright scholar: By Satiman Jamin KUALA Berang in Terengganu and Ba' Kelalan in Sarawa...

KUALA Berang in Terengganu and Ba' Kelalan in Sarawak may have little in common with Seattle, in the United States, but Fulbright scholar Blair Daly regards all three places as his home. His attachment to Seattle only goes back 23 years as he was born there but there is a 45-year-old link between him and Sarawak. That link led him to the Land of the Hornbills in 2008. The talented jazz drummer was enthralled by his college professor's tales about his stint as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sarawak in 1966, teaching English to the rural kids of Ba' Kelalan. Such was the lure to get in touch with his professor's former students in Sarawak that the political science student from Whitworth College applied to study for a semester at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
