Taiwan -- Three ranking health officials have been arrested in connection with a corruption probe into equipment procurement at three government-run hospitals, prosecutors said yesterday. As of press time, the Taoyuan district court was still reviewing the preliminary evidence to determine whether the three suspects should be taken into custody, as requested by prosecutors. The suspects are Huang Kun-chang, head of the Hospital Administration Commission under the Cabinet-level Department of Health (DOH); Lee Yuan-fang, head of DOH-run Keelung Hospital; and Wang Chiung-lang, deputy chief of the DOH-run Taipei Hospital. The suspects were arrested Friday, as prosecutors searched 79 premises, including their residences and offices.
