THE early morning mists crept lazily off the rolling green hills and swirled around my ankles like an insistent cat. There was a nip in the air, and one could almost hear faint strains of fiddling swelling in an epic paean to the dawn, as the morning Guinness wafted like a gentle aubade. Yes, I was in Ireland. And, yes, it was way too early. But my senses were startled into wakefulness by the first sight that confronted me upon arriving at Ardmore Studios in County Wicklow: A bunch of dudes clad in spun tunics and leather doublets running around a field after a ball, each clutching an oddly shaped stick, playing some sort of medieval lacrosse game.
