Syria will lift a 48-year-old emergency law after it enacts an anti-terrorism legislation and will amend the Constitution this week to change an Article that gives the party of President Bashar al-Assad a monopoly on leading the country, Al Arabiya television reported yesterday. The Cabinet is expected to resign this week to acknowledge shortcomings in its performance, the TV network said. YEMEN Islamic militants seized control of a weapons factory, a strategic mountain, which holds a radio station and a presidential guest house, and a nearby town in the southern Yemen province of Abyan yesterday, said a witness and security officials. The nation has been rocked by weeks of protests against President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who refuses to step down, saying it would draw Yemen into a long civil war.
