SINGAPORE - Overall mergers and acquisitions activity in Singapore stands at US$7.2 billion (S$9 billion) so far this year, a 10.1 per cent decline from the US$8 billion during the first quarter of last year, according to Thomson Reuters' First Quarter 2011 Singapore Preliminary M&A Review. However, the review also noted that the number of deal transactions increased to 212 from 199 over the same period. Total cross-border transactions captured 76 per cent of Singapore's overall M&A activity this year, amounting to US$5.5 billion just as the end of the first quarter approaches. Inbound activity accounted for 55 per cent, while outbound activity made up 45 per cent of Singapore's cross-border volume. The financial sector is leading the way, accounting for 26.5 per cent of Singapore's overall M&A activity so far this year, followed by the real estate sector with 22.7 per cen...
