OCBC introduces "scan & pay" feature for smartphones

SINGAPORE : OCBC Bank has given customers the flexibility to scan and pay bills on their mobile phones. This is being introduced as an additional feature to its existing banking application for smartphones running on the Android operating system. OCBC is also working on offering the functionality on other mobile devices, such as iPhones, which run on different operating systems. Customers can use the camera function on their mobile devices to read barcodes, instead of manually keying in the invoice number. Payment can then be made online through the bank. Billing organisations so far include SingTel, StarHub, M1 and Singapore Power. OCBC said the feature was introduced as bill payment is one of the most commonly used functions in online banking.
