Dr Susan Lim tried to stop a disciplinary hearing against her with a 'threat' to the MFA, the High Court heard yesterday

DR SUSAN Lim wants the High Court to stop the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) from setting up a second disciplinary committee to look into whether she had overcharged a royal patient from Brunei. She first treated Pengiran Anak Hajah Damit, the younger sister of Brunei's Queen, in 2001. The patient had fourth-stage breast cancer. In 2004, Dr Lim became the primary physician in charge of all her treatments. The patient died in August 2007. The bill for 153 days that year amounted to $26 million (including GST of $1.2 million). This was later halved by Dr Lim. Brunei's Ministry of Health approached Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) for help because it found the original bill too high. MOH made a complaint to SMC, and a disciplinary hearing was convened last year. After about two weeks of hearings, the committee declared it had heard enough and had come to a decision. Dr L...
