AirAsia and Expedia announce joint venture

SINGAPORE: AirAsia and online travel agency Expedia have announced a joint venture that will share resources and expand the number of flights, hotels and holiday packages available online in Asia. However, the joint venture company will maintain three different brands, AirAsiaGo, GoRooms and Expedia to cater to different market segments. "It's actually the first joint venture that Expedia has entered into anywhere with anyone. So I don't think, there is no model for this, it's not a business model, it's just a unique opportunity with a unique player of Asia," said Mr Barry Diller, chairman and senior executive of Expedia. The investment value of the joint venture - the first between a low cost carrier and an online travel agent - was not disclosed.
