BEIJING: The popularity of microblogging in China has swept the country by storm, especially among its young. One of them is 29 year-old Wang Mingyu, who uses microblogging to keep up with friends. He also uses the microblog, or wei bo in Chinese, to catch up on news, issues and current developments. "We have no access to Facebook in China so Sina microblog is the equivalent of Facebook and Twitter here," Mr Wang said. "Microblogging is attractive to me because it expands my social network. By looking at comments left behind by friend, I can also use it to find out that so-and-so is related to so-and-so. It's really quite fascinating." More than 50 operators in China have started providing microblog services. Users say wei bo is a quick way to get the information they need.
