The Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs will retire from politics. In a statement released to the media on Thursday, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee said he had informed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of his desire to step down from politics ’some time last year’ and PM Lee has agreed to his request. The 56 year-old Member of Parliament (MP) for Nee Soon East and former vice-dean of the law faculty at the National University of Singapore from 1991 to 2001, has expressed hope to return to do some part-time teaching there. ‘Wherever possible, I will continue to support important causes like promoting sports, nurturing voluntarism and helping youths to realise their potential, all of which I had espoused consistently all these 20 years in public service,’ he added.
