Saddle up for a day with the ponies

ABOUT 50 horses have been brought into Singapore over the past year for the National Equestrian Park, including 25 from the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Said the president of the Equestrian Federation, Dr Melanie Chew: 'The YOG horses faced great pressure during the Games, and after the Games, some fell quite ill and needed to rest.' Some of the YOG horses will be used in a pilot programme involving students from NorthLight School and Assumption Pathway School to help improve their emotional quotient. Twelve horses have also been sourced from Germany for the programme. 'We looked specifically for ponies which have done similar work with children with delinquency or social problems,' said Dr Chew.
