[CNA] Singapore stocks close 0.47% higher

SINGAPORE : Stocks in Singapore closed 0.47 per cent higher on Friday as a rise in manufacturing in China boosted investor sentiment and eased fears of a slowdown in the world's second biggest economy. The official purchasing managers index rose to 53.4 in March from 52.2 in February, after three consecutive months of slowdowns, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said in a statement. A separate survey by HSBC saw the PMI rise to 51.8 in March from 51.7 in February. Dealers however noted that trading was cautious ahead of key US jobs data, while concerns over the consequences of last month's earthquake in Japan continued to weigh on sentiment. The Straits Times Index rose 14.62 points to close at 3,120.47. Volume was 1.26 billion shares. Gainers led losers 327 to 142. Sembcorp Marine gained 1.03 per cent to S$5.90 and Yanlord Land advanced 4.64 per cent...
