Travel author Mark Smith (Man In Seat 61) explains why life is too short to travel on a plane

WITH a career-making sobriquet like Man In Seat 61, you'd think Mark Smith is a secret agent. The truth is, he is just a mild-mannered former government worker with a passion for train travel. In 2001, Smith created a multi-award-winning website (www.seat61.com) to help travellers find out all they need to know about travelling via train and ferry. That hobby has since become his career. He recently released his second book, a travel must-have called Man In Seat 61 - Worldwide: A Guide To Train Travel Beyond Europe, a follow-up to his debut Man In Seat 61: A Guide To Taking The Train Through Europe three years ago.
