Paris to build controversial 'Triangle' tower

PARIS - The Paris town council has given the green light to a controversial "Triangle" tower rising 180m above Paris which critics say is an "attack on the beauty of the French capital". The 40-storey steel-and-glass building will be the first skyscraper to be built inside the French capital in more than 30 years and will cost €535 million (S$957 million). The privately-financed building, scheduled for completion by 2017, will overlook Paris from its southwestern extremity at the porte de Versailles, already home to a vast exhibition centre. It will include mainly offices, a conference hall, panoramic restaurants and ground-floor shops, creating 5,000 jobs, according to the local authorities.
