SINGAPORE: Japanese star footballer Hidetoshi Nakata took to the field at Jalan Besar stadium to raise funds for the Japan quake. The ex-international turned out for the Albirex Niigata Singapore Selection team. It was a full house, as 6,000 spectators watched Albirex take on the S.League All Stars team as part of the "Take Action" charity match. Former Japanese internationals like Hiroshi Nanami, Masakiyo Maezono and Tsuyoshi Kitazawa joined the Albirex selection team. The match is just one of the initiatives to raise an estimated S$160,000 to help with the disaster relief efforts in Japan. Others included a gala dinner last Thursday where soccer memorabilia was auctioned and gate proceeds from other S.League matches.
