LA PROSPERIDAD, Philippines : Negotiators returned from a Philippine forest on Sunday after armed tribesmen who have taken a group of teachers and children hostage failed to show for talks, officials said. The abduction of the 15-strong group was part of a bid by members of the forest-dwelling Manobo tribe to secure the release of a relative who was jailed following a similar mass kidnapping in 2009, officials said. Talks were due to resume on Sunday, Alvin Magdamit, the mayor of La Prosperidad in the lawless Mindanao region had said in an interview with ABS-CBN television. But the kidnappers and their hostages were not at the meeting place pre-arranged with a team of government negotiators, Josefina Bajade, a social welfare officer who heads the team, later told reporters.
