SINGAPORE - The pitter patter of ping-pong balls was silenced by the roars and cheers of some 2,000 supporters at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall on Tuesday, as paddlers from the Boys and Girls 'A' and 'B' Division battled for supremacy in the 2012 National Inter-School Table Tennis Championships. But for some, there was much more at stake than championship trophies. Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) (RGS) captain Wan Yuquan had never tasted gold medal success in her three years with the Girls 'C' and 'B' Division teams, and the 16-year-old and her teammates were determined to break their duck this year. But the paddlers faced a familiar adversary in the team final against Cedar Girls' Secondary School (CGS), who had defeated them 3-2 in the gold medal match last year.
