#Syria: 1000s attend funerals in #Douma, residents pledging to protest till justice for martyrs' families:

NICOSIA - THOUSANDS poured into the streets of Douma on Sunday to bury eight people killed in a crackdown by Syrian security forces on the Muslim day of rest, residents said. 'People are very sad,' a resident of the suburb north of Damascus told AFP. 'They want to make it up to the families so they are promising more protests.' Residents of neighbouring towns joined the massive funeral for the eight people killed in one of Friday's protest centres. Shops had shut their doors as a safety precaution ahead of the funerals and security forces, widely blamed for the deaths, were nowhere to be seen. 'There is no government presence at all.' said the resident. 'Some volunteers are helping organise traffic.' He said 90 people who were detained in a roundup by security forces were released at 11pm (4am Sunday, Singapore time) on Saturday, adding that a civilian bus dropped them off...
