Do some new citizens talk a little too loudly? Our reader thinks so.

I REFER to the letter by Mr Raymund Koh last Wednesday ("3 bad habits new citizens should be educated against"). Another undesirable habit which some new citizens have brought along is noise. Maybe because they come from countries with vast landscapes, some of them talk louder than Singaporeans born here, yet they remain totally oblivious to their immediate surrounding. I have encountered this behaviour frequently in the last five years or so. My neighbour rented out his whole unit to one foreign family, and every day, without fail, they would talk to one another at the top of their voices, both inside and outside their home. I sincerely hope the relevant authorities will make it a point to instil the importance of maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the minds of our new citizens.
